Before you know it we will be up and running halting ramps and reclaiming our neighborhood. This weblog is for the use of The North Mission Neighborhood Alliance, the McCoppin Neighbors Group, and everyone interested in keeping their eyes on the construction process. There are permit constraints the crews have to follow: when they violate the contracted agreements, we will call, complain, get documentation, and post here what happened. i hope that this whole process will be easy and accessable. I hope that this log helps the neighbors know we are all together in this, the ramp going up is just the beginning of our struggle to hold CalTrans, the City, and the State accountable to our community concerns; our right! to sky and trees and clean open streets, our right to be a neighborhood. WE ARE READY TO BE HEARD!

Three times in the past 4 or 5 days, I have tried to cross Elgin Park at the intersection of Duboce and almost been struck by cars that now come speeding down that street, anxious, angry or whatever about having to take that detour. They did not look for pedestrians and barely even stopped before trying to turn onto Duboce.
There needs to be a painted crosswalk across Elgin Park, or at the very least, a sign that says "Slow Down" or "Watch for Pedestrians." I will send an email today to both the Contractor and the Project Liaison.

Monday April 26
5:20 am Noises woke me up. Dropping of heavy things, loud truck noises, and some kind of electronic sound that was persisitent, maybe a backup thing from a big truck.
1346 Stevenson is being shaken. I am on the Second floor and my chair shakes every time I hear a big sound of something heavy dropping. Our building will be damaged if this goes on for a protracted time.

today and during the last week, air quality is unacceptable. diesel fumes from construction equipment are filling my home and making it uninhabitable.
for anyone who is experiencing problems, here who you may contact:
The Bay Area Air Quality District
If you smell or see toxic air, call this number immediately and they will send someone within 30 minutes:
1 800 334-6367
You must be near site, the inspector will want to talk with you when they show up.
Diesel exhaust is a serious public health risk and has been listed as a known human carcinogen since 1990. In 1998, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) formally listed diesel particulate as a toxic air contaminant. In fact, diesel particulates are the most significant source of air toxics in California and account for 70 percent of the cancer risk from toxic air contaminants statewide, according to CARB. Diesel exhaust also exacerbates lung diseases such as asthma and emphysema.

4/28/04 Today I spoke with The HotLine (Mitchell) re the deep shaking at 9:45-10:15 am of the 135 Valencia property. Then I called the on-site construction # 252-8837 and talked to a CalTrans engineer, Albert. He said that the seismograph is near the 135 Valencia property. Obviously noone was monitoring the vibrations. They were clearly off the scale. He "said" he would go to the property to check.
Also called Chet Fitzell, Eugene Berger Managemnt to report this violation. Left a message and asked him to call the HotLine.
Michell Omemberg responded to my message to the Hotline and said that CalTrans has the censors on for THEIR protection. GREAT! not for the 135 Valencia property protection. And who monitors them? Are they effective or just another pacification?

It appears the request I made two-weeks ago for a crosswalk or a "Watch for Pedestrians" sign at the corner of Duboce & Elgin Park has gone absolutely nowhere. Once again yesterday, while lugging 30 lbs of laundry (2 block out of my way) up Duboce, I was almost struck by a car coming out of the detour.
